Aco-Eco-Electro-Earth

featuring

Erik DeLuca, Nicole Canham

and

Gustavo Matamoros

October 16, 8PM at GAB Gallery, 105 Northwest 23rd Street Miami, FL 33127 (previous Locust Project Space)

In this month's celebration of the Earth, we are presenting a unique program which combines acoustic, ecological and electronic sounds and video in live performance.

Opening set: Eric Lopez-Zareno, guitar, keyboard, electronics.

Erik DeLuca will present an intriguing spatialized conglomerations of sounds that he recorded during his art residency in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, Alaska this past summer. DeLuca's expedition was made possible through a Raven Fellowship, a Double Hoo Research Grant, GSAS and UVA's Society of Fellows, and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

Nicole Canham, a renowned Australian performer will present a set of music written for clarinet, Hungarian tarogato, electronics and video. Canham and the video artist Sarah Kaur have worked together, exploring the connections and boundaries between new music and new media. They have sought to create new relationships between live performer, video and sound, creating a tapestry of textures, memories and emotions that blur the lines between what is real and imagined. Their set will explore the notion of the earth as a place that we occupy in a physical sense and the internal places and spaces of the heart and mind. Pieces by Ross Edwards, Brigid Burke, Paula Matthusen, Nicole Canham and Tim Hansen.

Miami own Gustavo Matamoros needs not to be introduced to our audiences. A long time champion of soundscapes and sonic ecologies of the South Florida, Matamoros will surprise you with a blend of multichannel sound projections and live concocted productions in his Study for Pet Shop Gallery (2010).
