This month we are featuring an ensemble of young musicians from University of Miami at one of the city's most progressive electronic music venues: Sweat Records. Performance by Lawrence W. Moore, Jim McDavitt and Mutaal Green promises to blend experimental, hip-hop, acid jazz and space electronica in real-time.
The Ensemble
The University of Miami Electronic Music Ensemble is directed by Lawrence W. Moore. Moore is an electro-acoustic specialist who composes and programs software. He is also the Composer/Producer behind Wayfarer music. Moore's background includes both a classical training and a pop. commercial music interest.
Ensemble member, Mutaal Green is a South Florida based DJ and turntable artist. His music combines powerful, striking rhythms, with an intriguing approach to rhythmic variation and sound selection. ensemble member, Jim McDavitt is a composer who works in both acoustic music instrumentations as well as electro-acoustic music combinations. He has a great affinity for timbre and beauty.
Special Guests
Fred De Sena spent many years teaching electronic music, music theory, and composition courses at the University of Miami. Now at the New World School of the Arts, De Sena is taking his rock band background into the art music world by putting together a live group that specializes in electronic music performance. This group combines pop, jazz, and electronic art music into an intriguing balance of styles. Included in this group are Lawrence W. Moore, Nestor Prierro, and James McKillop.
Nestor Prierro is multi-faceted musician who combines his drum and percussion experience with electronic sequencing and percussion trigggering. Prierro also has an affinity for ethnic instruments and loves to bring out his double-reed racket. James McKillop is a MAX/MSP programmer who loves to work with sound synthesis and sampling. He has a great taste for sound generation and manipulation.
